King Street West, Stockport

This 4-5 storey development of 73 Affordable (Rent-to Buy) apartments for Great Places Housing Group forms a significant part of the ongoing Stockport Town Centre West masterplan.

To accommodate site level changes the development is split into two adjoining buildings each with their respective entrance. Lightweight steel frame construction (SFS) was adopted bringing both sustainability (recycling) and programming benefits.

Further to this Air Source Heat Pumps brings a sustainable and affordable heat source to each apartment. The architectural language takes clues from the historic brick mills of Stockport, with dual pitched roofs relating to the adjoining housing stock.

Where levels dictate, ground floor apartments have their own front door access and gardens creating active street frontages in line with Secured by Design best practice. All other apartments have individual balconies.

The development also accommodates two residents roof terraces (affording views across the town), secure courtyard parking, 100% cycle storage and an offsite Car Club facility.
