Paul Jeffrey

Paul joined the Practice in 1989, and since then has always been very much ‘hands on’, seeing projects through from inception to completion. He is particularly focused on ensuring all of the Practice’s Clients receive the best possible service.

He has extensive knowledge of the public sector and working within frameworks as well as public/private partnering initiatives.

Paul oversees many of the Practice’s residential developments, as well as healthcare, community and conservation work.

His passion is high quality bespoke design solutions that respond positively to site and context, promoting social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Colin Leith

An enthusiastic and infectious character, Colin is passionate about design, sustainability and social responsibility. He has a breadth of experience spanning various sectors, Public and Private, including a proven track record ranging from the delivery of mixed use regeneration projects to Heritage Museums, Commercial and Leisure developments.

Recognizing the responsibility each built project has in contributing towards a “sense of place”, Colin not only looks to maximize the potential benefits for the end user but also how a project may benefit the wider community. He has gained considerable experience working with and gaining the confidence of stakeholders when leading community engagement workshops and presentations.

Anita Chan
Anita brings a wealth of experience in delivering high quality, Client and end user focused designs across all the core sectors. Her involvement with local authorities to develop schemes for their communities has resulted in invaluable stakeholder engagement and management skills. When combined with her passion for design & detail, her schemes have proven transformational for communities and have achieved real value for money for our clients. Anita was project architect on the multi award-winning Jesmond Gardens project, which was one of the first truly transformational primary schools in the UK.

Dan Labella
Dan joined Bowker Sadler in 2017 having previously spent over 20 years practicing in the heart of Manchester city centre. Dan has been responsible for the design and delivery of many large-scale city centre developments including a significant part of Birmingham City Centre’s office district. Dan is particularly passionate about office design. With this experience and expertise Dan leads our commercial sector which includes working on Workplace Projects, Sports & Leisure, Industrial Schemes, Mixed Use Developments, Retail, Hotels and Student Residential.   He is also highly experienced in the Higher Education sector having been a framework lead for many of the UK’s leading universities including Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Bradford and Wolverhampton. Dan is currently delivering numerous schemes for both The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Alan Sadler
Alan founded Bowker Sadler in 1983 with Peter Bowker and has steadily grown the business into an award-winning architectural practise. He has 30 plus years of experience in Contract Management within the Education, Residential and Commercial sectors. Alan is responsible for the management of framework and partnering contracts and oversees the management of the practice including QA and health and safety. A proud Grandad, Alan’s spare time is spent with his family and supporting local charity and community projects.

Karen Arkwright
Karen joined us in May 2023 and came with a wide variety of business experience. Her role as practice manager is to oversee the day-to-day running of the office, ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining efficiency and smooth functioning of the team. She also plays a key role in business development, marketing strategies, fostering a collaborative working environment and engaging with our community. Karen is a keen wild swimmer and is brave enough to dip all year round!

Kirsty Medcraft

Kirsty joined the practice in 2003 as a junior and spent the next 5 years studying part time at college and university to become qualified as an Architectural Technologist. She has worked mainly in the residential sector delivering projects of varying sizes and construction types for social housing providers and private clients, but also has experience in the education, commercial and transport sectors including an underground metro station in the Middle East.

She has also spent many years as the offices Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor and as such advises on the sustainability aspects of many of the residential projects within the office.

Stephen Williams

Stephen joined Bowker Sadler Architecture in 2004 and has been instrumental in leading the practice through the CAD & BIM revolutions. He is passionate about the digital built environment and all things that give us a technological edge. He also heads up all CAD and IT training in the practice. As a senior job architect his portfolio of experience extends from multi-million private mansions, and the commonwealth games bowling pavilion, to flagship housing regeneration for many of the regions social housing providers.

When not at work he is an active member of various local cycling clubs both on and off road.

Corin joined us in 2014 and has 22 plus years’ experience in the construction industry. He was a BIM early adopter at one of the UK's largest architectural practises and has been the project lead on a large number of BIM projects, winning regional awards for his work in the Education sector.   In his spare time Corin is a keen family man. He cycles to work rain or shine and often enjoys weekends away in his VW camper van.

Mike Daniels
Before joining BSA, Mike has worked for several award winning practices in the north west over the last 25 years, all of whom are recognised for their design led approach and commitment to quality. His work experience covers a variety of sectors including housing, healthcare, master planning, landscape and urban design. He believes that a collaborative approach is key to the design process, from initial ideas and feasibility right through to detailed design and construction. Good communication with clients, the design team, end users and the wider community are, in his view essential to help foster effective working relationships throughout the life of a project and beyond. Mike also teaches at Manchester School of Architecture, where he has been a studio tutor for the last 5 years.

Charles Shorland joined Bowker Sadler in 2016 bringing over 40 years of experience as a Chartered Architect passionate about the design and delivery of quality buildings.   With a lifetime ‘s work in healthcare, commercial, sport and leisure, he has concentrated. over the past 15 years on education in the northwest: at primary, secondary and tertiary levels for both mainstream and special need schools, colleges and universities.   As Bowker Sadler‘s Principal Designer, he has spearheaded our health & safety commitment to design and deliver safe buildings under the CDM Regulations 2015, and is helping our ongoing commitment to the Building Safety Act 2022, new secondary legislation, and the updated Building Regulations.

Joe Carroll
Joe joined the practice in 2024 and brought with him a wealth of experience in the residential and leisure sectors after working for a large commercial practice in Manchester for 12 years. He has a strong portfolio of work ranging from multi-million-pound, large scale residential and mixed-use urban regeneration schemes, to smaller scale housing developments. He has a strong focus on early-stage collaborative design and attention to detail, but enjoys working across all stages of a project to see initial design ideas coming to life. Outside of work Joe is a keen cyclist and an avid promoter of girls’ football, coaching and developing new girls teams for his local grassroots club where he is also a board member.

Clive is a member of CIAT and has over 40 years of experience in the Building Industry joining Bowker Sadler in 2009 following Hartington, Fleming & Worsley Architects amalgamation. At Bowker Sadler he has worked on a range of new build housing projects, extensions to private residences, new build and extensions to educational buildings, office alterations and refurbishment and a number of cat adoption centres. Outside interests are Train and Aviation related interests, Ornithology and Walking.

Andy qualified as an Architectural Technologist from Sheffield Hallam University and throughout his 15-plus years of experience, he has worked on the retail, education, residential and defence sectors.

Paul Ward

Paul is an Architectural Technologist with a passion for Interior Design and Furniture. By achieving professional qualifications in both Civil & Structural Engineering and 3D Spatial Design, Paul offers a breadth of construction knowledge which is valued by both his colleagues and clients.

He has been involved in a wide range of projects across the UK, working on both large and small scale developments, listed buildings and new build schemes across residential, healthcare, leisure and commercial sectors. Paul is eager to improve built environments for end users through high quality design solutions with an emphasis on reimagining existing buildings to bring them back into service. His expertise in Revit and AutoCAD offers clients exceptional professional service in building information modelling.

A self-confessed Japanophile and keen gardener, outside the office Paul can generally be found with his hands in the dirt or walking with his dog Arrow.

Andrew joined the practice in 2023. He has over 19 years industry experience including healthcare, higher education, student housing and commercial logistics projects ranging in value from 500k to £80m. He has a particular interest in understanding the detailed design from an early stage in a projects lifecycle to mitigate risk and give technical understanding to a design concept. Dad to 2 teenagers, Andy enjoys family camping trips and getting stuck in to DIY.

Kaja joined our team after graduating from the Manchester School of Architecture in 2021. Self-motivated and creative, she enjoys getting involved in varied projects and is our rising star of the future. Kaja is passionate about psychology and mental health and the positive effects of Architecture. At university, she studied using architecture as a way to improve the well-being and comfort of its users. At home, Kaja enjoys blogging, practising yoga, and playing tennis.

Adam joined Bowker Sadler in 2023 with 6 years’ experience working in architectural practices with a mix of sectors including: social housing, private residential, and commercial.

He has been responsible for everything from editing marketing animations to detail design and handles any challenge presented to him. He enjoys solving technical and design problems, as well as integrating sustainable design elements into projects.

When he’s out of the office he enjoys hiking, gardening, and trying new recipes in the kitchen
