Situated in a conservation area, this was the site of a 3 bedroomed house with 2 two bedroomed cottages with private walled yards, and surrounded by trees. The design seeks to provide a new detached house of contemporary design with associated gardens.
Responding to the woodland setting, the house is constructed from timber using laminated timber beams and is substantially clad in larch/cedar louvred boarding that provides a much more direct relationship to its woodland setting, and is uncompromisingly modern in style.
The house is set into the ground to significantly reduce its volume and its impact on the surroundings. It hugs the boundary of the site limiting the impact on the existing trees, allowing new trees to be planted and provides the basis of a more sustainable managed woodland.
