This has been a challenging project working closely with our Client and the TV programme Grand Designs. We designed an exceptional home which substantially extends an existing Georgian cottage.

The concept use binds the new building to its site. Vistas from inside the building are set up into the surrounding landscape which extend the spatial experience from inside to outside.

Bridges are used which provide strong dynamic lines. A bridge on a dam is used to access the house and bridges at first floor level provide access from sloping landscape into the existing building.

Zinc and glass are used to create a contrast between old and new elements. The project appeared on Channel 4’s Grand Designs in September 2011.
